The grandeur of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has inspired a fan to fashion an innovative throwback in gaming, a beautifully detailed Nintendo GameCube console. Forging a bridge of nostalgia leading from the franchise’s present to its past, the fan, known as TheJinxx, has reimagined the iconic GameCube device to reflect the aesthetic of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a game that further extends the nearly four-decade legacy of this cherished Nintendo series.
Undertaking a meticulous process, TheJinxx started by honing the console and controller shells with fine grit paper. The items were then prepared for repainting by applying a thin layer of Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2x spray paint, ensuring a smooth and ready surface. After allowing the paint to dry, the next phase of the transformation was set into motion with the application of golden paint markers to inscribe Zonai markings synonymous with the Zelda universe. The brilliance of golden paint further graces the controller buttons, console buttons, and the controller port plate, adding a lavish touch to the design.
This exquisite design, with its white base color and prominent gold accents, pays homage to the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch OLED console, which was released earlier this year. TheJinxx had the themed dock of the Switch OLED console at their disposal, providing them the opportunity to closely examine and accurately replicate the design elements on the GameCube console and controller. The fan's dedication and precision have thus resulted in a stunning rendition of the GameCube console that echoes the aesthetics of the latest Zelda release.
Despite deeming their work as "far from perfect," TheJinxx has splendidly captured the essence of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in their design. Notable features include a golden plate adorning the front of the console, which houses the controller ports, and a Triforce jewel badge, lending a distinctive touch to the design. Though the entire painting process was painstakingly long, the resultant aesthetically pleasing GameCube design demonstrates that such a unique creation is achievable, provided one has access to the correct materials and the necessary skills to sand and paint surfaces.
While fans may not be able to play the GameCube’s Zelda titles on the Nintendo Switch currently, this custom-designed GameCube console has undoubtedly managed to transport many a fan down memory lane. Moreover, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch Online offers ample content and secrets for the players to explore, promising hours of immersive gameplay in the meantime. Thus, the spirit of the iconic GameCube era lives on, beautifully reincarnated in this fan-created Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom-inspired console design.
