In July 2022, an accidental listing by Play-Asia suggested a forthcoming release of Square Enix’s acclaimed game, SaGa Frontier 2, for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, leading many to speculate about a possible remaster or re-release. However, an official announcement regarding this listing was never made, leaving fans in suspense.
During the 40th official broadcast for Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe, while Akitoshi Kawazu, the creator of the series, didn't directly address the premature listing, he did touch upon the notion of a remaster for SaGa Frontier 2, especially pertinent as the game was commemorating its 25th anniversary at the time. Kawazu subtly hinted at the existence of such a project in development, urging fans to remain patient for an official reveal. He assured the audience that their patience would indeed be rewarded, implying that something significant was on the horizon for the celebrated game.
Originally launched on the PlayStation One in 1999 in Japan and later in 2000 for western audiences, SaGa Frontier 2 was lauded for its innovative non-linear gameplay, visually stunning watercolor backdrops, and memorable soundtrack. This combination earned it critical acclaim and a special place in the hearts of its players.
With the tease from Kawazu, anticipation is high among fans of the series for an official announcement regarding a remaster. It appears the developer is keen on keeping the details under wraps for now, but the hint suggests that SaGa Frontier 2 could be making a grand return, much to the excitement of its long-time fans.
