The Apple AR/VR headset could be here as soon as January 2023

The Apple AR/VR headset could be here as soon as January 2023, according to one of the leading Apple analysts in the business. In an industry note seen by 9to5Mac, the usually reliable Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the new hardware is "likely" to be announced in January 2023, but he also says that it may not go on sale to consumers at the same time.

This would be Apple's first foray into the world of virtual and augmented reality, and it is said that the company is working on two different devices. The first is a pair of lightweight AR glasses, while the second is a more fully-featured (and expensive) device that combines AR with virtual reality.

The latter is what Ming-Chi Kuo is talking about here, and it is rumored to be running the same M1 chips as can be found in Apple's laptops and tablets. It is also said to be based on a new software platform called reality OS.

From what we've heard, it's shaping up to be a premium device and is going to come with a premium price tag attached: perhaps something in the region of $3,000.
